Between 1974 and 1981, scientists at the Roche Research Institute of Marine Pharmacology
(RRIMP) in Dee Why (Sydney, Australia) carried out an intensive study of biologically active
chemical substances from marine flora and fauna with the aim of finding new compounds
which were suitable for therapeutic medical and veterinary applications. One aspect of this
work was the screening of extracts from marine plants for potential antibiotic compounds.
Abstract
